David Beckett has confirmed that his beloved wife Anne Kirkbride who played Coronoation Street’s Dierdre Barlow in the soap for over 40 years sadly past away last night at the age of 60.
An iconic Coronation Street star who has graced our screens for 44 years has died. Anne Kirkbride peacefully passed away last night in a Manchester hospital after a short illness.
Executive Producer Kieran Roberts expressed his thoughts on the tragic news, “There are no words to describe the sense of grief we feel at Anne’s passing”.
“She will be greatly missed by the Coronation Street team who share happy memories of working with her. We feel blessed and honoured to have known her. Our thoughts are with David and their family.”
ITV Director of Television Peter Fincham echoed Kieran’s thoughts.
“Our sincerest condolences to Anne’s husband David and her family at this very sad time.”
Since the news broke tributes have been pouring in all over social networking sites. ‘RIP Anne Kirkbride’ and ‘Dierdre Barlow’ are currently second and third top trending subjects on twitter.
Anne’s onscreen husband Ken Barlow, William Roache, said:
“I feel Anne’s loss so personally havign worked closely with her for over 40 years. She was such a loving and vibrant person. You always knew she was there because her laugh was never far away”.
An appeal has been made to the media by David that they respect his privacy and that of Anne’s family at this tragic and distressing time.
Anne passed away on Monday evening (19th January) aged 60.
