On Monday 4 January the demolition of Ashton Under Lyne’s council offices begun.

The erect scaffolding and the crane could be seen from the top of Heartshead Pike and the dust cover was mounted as preparation to demolish Ashton Under Lyne’s council office block which has been there since 1982; once rebuild the land will be home to the council once again.

Dust filled the outdoor market but stall holders were out in high numbers for their first market since New Year.

However the same could not be said for customers, whether it be because of January blues or the bulldozing there were few shoppers around.

The rejuvenation of Ashton Market is showing as the new outdoor market stalls are coming to a finish after eighteen months work and the council buildings being revamped. By 2018 Ashton will have under gone a full transformation.
